Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, one of the candidates vying to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 presidential election, has expressed his delight at being chosen as one of the five candidates to move to the next stage of the competition.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) at its Super Delegates Congress on Sunday reduced the number of candidates bidding to lead the party in the 2016 presidential election from seven to five.

Although Nana Addo topped the list with more than 80 percent of the total votes cast, other four managed to sail through.

They include Alan Kojo Kyeremateng, Francis Adai Nimo, Joe Ghartey, and Kofi Osei-Ameyaw.

Speaking to Citi News, Osei-Ameyaw, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency, said the congress was to shortlist the number of aspiring candidates.

“In terms of the first process, they [delegates] are to bring five and they brought five and to me that is the bottom line. It doesn’t matter the provision of the candidates, the most important thing is that they are to bring five and they brought five,” he said.

Osei-Ameyaw believes his stake in the second congress scheduled for October  2014 would increase because of the high number of delegates who would vote.

“In effect, we are going to the second process which has within the college some 140,000 voters. That is what will determine the flagbearer,” he indicated.
