The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has announced Monday, June 26, 2017, as a statutory public holiday.

He said in a statement that the public holiday, which is Eid Ul-Fitr, must be observed throughout the country.

The Eid-Ul-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Muslims in the country started the 30-day fast on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Ramadan is a compulsory tenet of the Islam religion, and followers are encouraged to observe it except for those who have special medical conditions that may prevent them.
