Three robbery suspects have been arrested by police in the Eastern Region for allegedly robbing some drivers in separate incidents on the Nsutam-Apedwa Highways.

The suspects were apprehended by some residents of Akyem Obretema and almost lynched, but for police intervention.

[contextly_sidebar id=”tOtd8fd20peC6sDrLpCjJ5WPBDCb5S6J”]The three have been identified as Buhari Dramani aged 23, Bismarck Ofori aged 19 and Yaw Owusu, aged 17.

On the dawn of April 22, they allegedly robbed a truck transporting assorted goods from Accra to the consignee’s company in Wa in the upper West Region.

Confirming the arrests to Citi News, the Eastern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, noted that on reaching Akyem Nsutam, near custom barrier, on the Kumasi-Accra highway, the driver stopped to rest, “and at 5:30 am, an unidentified cargo bus alerted him that the rear of his car has been cut open and items stolen.”

According to the unidentified driver, he saw the suspect’s vehicle and gave its description to the police, and the  Kibi Divisional patrol team was put on standby at the Akyem -Apedwa junction.

The police team at Kibi eventually saw the robbers’ car with Reg. No: GW 5346 Y, and signaled them to stop before giving a chase and firing warning shots leading to the occupants abandoning the car at Akyem Obretema, where they were apprehended by the residents.

“The patrol team searched the car which led to the recovery of 19 packets and five pieces of Oba Makarna spaghetti, 143 packets of Rambo milk, 3 bags of dried cocoa beans, 61 packets of Rambo mackerel in tomato sauce, one industrial step down sewing machine, a cutter, a telephone directory and a prepaid total ATM card,” ASP Tetteh said.

Second incident

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh added that, on that same night, the armed robbers raided another truck conveying the Amarjaro Cocoa Company cocoa from Asante Akyem Domeabra to Tema.

The driver of the truck had made a stop over at Akyem Apedwa to rest, where he was attacked by robbers who cut open the rear part of his rear truck, and made away with three bags of cocoa.

“The driver said the suspects pulled a gun and other implements to hit his right leg and was wounded and made away with one of the machines and some rubber sandals,” ASP Tetteh noted.

“The sum of GH.200.00 was retrieved from suspect Buhari Dramani, whilst a telephone directory and a prepaid Total card was retrieved from the car with registration number GW 5346 Y, 19 and five pieces of Oba Makarna spaghetti, 143 packets of Rambo milk, 3 bags of cocoa, 61 packets of Rambo mackerel tomato sauce, one industrial step-down machine, and a cutter, were all retained by the police.”

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh added that, the suspects are in police custody assisting with further investigations and will be put before court.
