Some Information Communication Technology (ICT), Science and Mathematics teachers in Accra have received over 53,000 laptop computers from the Ministry of Education to boost their work.

The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Pre-Tertiary Education, Alex Kyeremeh, who presented the computers said government had procured them for the 2016/2017 academic year to equip the teachers who had undergone special ICT training in the previous academic year.

Mr. Kyeremeh said the laptops had been pre-loaded with the necessary information on the three subjects and would go a long way to improve teaching and learning at the basic level.

Receiving the laptops on behalf of other directors for onward distribution to the teachers, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Dr. Peter Atefuah, expressed his appreciation to government for the gesture and promised they would be used for the intended purposes.

He was hopeful that the gesture would go a long way to enhance teaching and learning as teachers needed resources for effective and quality teaching.

The laptops would be sent to the regional offices for onward distribution to the schools through the district offices.

The NDC government as part of its 2016 manifesto,  said it has provided free laptop computers to over 50,000 teachers since 2013, as part of its teachers’ first agenda.

It also pledged to facilitate the acceleration of ICT education by training more teachers in the subject area.
