Over five thousand teachers whose salaries have been in arrears in excess of three months have been validated and are expected to be paid by the end of this month.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Finance Ministry has authorized the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to process the documents of these teachers for payments to be made.

If the machines are not open for now, it means it will be done within the first week of August… and then Controller can easily pay the monies that each teacher deserves,” Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Dan Osman Mwin told Citi News.
Following claims that a number of the teachers in the country employed by the Ghana Education Service presented fake certificates, the Audit Department and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, were tasked to validate the documents before payments are made.
Over 13,000 teachers were cleared in the first validation exercise.
Mr. Mwin said another badge of teachers will go through the same validation process after the first one is completed.
“This number is now covering all those teachers who had problems. This means that another badge will go through the validation process and when the number is encouraging they will again release it and the Controller General Accountant will be paid …”
Teachers ‘fight’ validation
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) earlier opposed the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) moves to get them to go through a second validation process.
They claimed the move was a deliberate attempt by the GES to delay the payment of arrears to teachers.
The Vice president of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu said, the union is surprised the GES is deliberately denying them what is rightfully theirs, arguing that a second field validation was a waste of time.
