A memorial service in honour of victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster was today [Friday] held at the Rev. Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church at Adabraka in Accra.

The memorial service was part of the activities to mark the first anniversary of the tragedy that claimed over 150 lives and left many more scarred physically and emotionally.

Families of the deceased persons and survivors of the disaster were at the service to remember the dead.

President John Mahama, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, and some ministers of state together with other dignitaries, also converged at the church for the first anniversary of the disaster.

Wreaths laid at disaster site
Roads leading past epicenter of the disaster, the GOIL fuel station near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, were blocked leaving the area free of vehicular traffic.

This allowed people to gather in front of the disaster site where wreaths were laid in remembrance of the dead.

Wreaths were laid by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Parliament and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
