Ghana’s opponents in Group G of the World Cup, Germany, say they are keeping their thoughts on their opening fixture against Portugal.
The three-time World Cup winners are the most accomplished team in the group and they expect to make it to the latter stages of the tournament even though their immediate concern is the match against Portugal at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador on the 16th of June
“The first match against Portugal is very important and we need to win it. Of course, Portugal are a good side and they have Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of attack.
It is a tough group but if we use our qualities as best as we can, then we should be able to go through”, said midfielder Andre Schurrle in an interview with German media.
The Germans will meet Ghana in the third group match at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza on the 21st of June but even before a ball is kicked in the group, German forward Miroslav Klose, speaking to German press, says he is very eager to get things started in Brazil especially as the team has more quality than before to make another challenge for a trophy they have not won since 1990.
“The anticipation of the World Cup is gigantic even for me who has played in three previous World Cups. But every tournament is different. In 2002, I was quite young and very nervous.
Everything was new for me but now, it is nearly everyday life. I am looking forward to my fourth World Cup because we really increase our quality from tournament to tournament and I am very ready for it.”
Germany will play against Cameroon in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Borussia Park in Monchengladbach before taking on Azerbaijan on the 6th of June at the Coface Arena in Mainz.
