President John Dramani Mahama has urged the youth of the Western Region to work hard at acquiring the necessary skills that will help them take advantage of the job opportunities that are emerging in the region.

The President said this when he cut the sod for the commencement of an onshore gas receiving facility at Sanzule in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

The facility is part of a $7 billion project that is being undertaken by Italian oil company ENI Spa, in collaboration with Vitol Energy.

President Mahama told the people of the area that deliberate efforts  were being made by his government to ensure that a lot of jobs are created.

“The Petroleum Commission is working with the operators of the project ENI and Vittol, to ensure that in addition to their corporate social responsibility projects, many more jobs are created in this community and nearby communities during the construction and the operation of the facility,” he said.

Mr. Mahama therefore urged the people to take advantage of these opportunities by acquiring the skills that will are required.

“I therefore urge all the people of the region, particularly the youth of Sanzule, to avail themselves to these opportunities and use the opportunities to re-emphasize the importance of skills acquisition. There will be many more jobs here, but without the requisite skills, training and qualification, you cannot take advantage of these.”
