All working people of Ghana will today join millions across the world to mark the annual May Day celebration.

President John Dramani Mahama will be the special guest of honour at this year’s celebration which will be held at the Jubilee park in Wa in the Upper West Region.

This year, the day will be marked under the theme: “Election 2016: The Role of Workers in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development.”

Meanwhile the Police in the Upper West region say they have put in place counter terrorism measures to ensure an incident-free celebration.

Deputy Upper West regional Police commander, Dr. Saibu Gariba in an interview explained that enough men have been deployed to ensure there is adequate security.

“We have actually deployed a very great number for this operation. In terms of numbers we are taking covert operations because of some counter terrorism measures we are undertaking and for this reason I cannot give you the exact numbers but I can assure you that  we have made adequate provision for this operation. We have deployed men from the entire municipality and across the region to support this operation,” he added.
