Lawyers for Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, whose parliamentary candidature for the Klottey Korley Constituency is being challenged in court by the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey, have asked Mr. Ashietey’s lawyers to allow the Supreme Court to decide the fate of their client.

The incumbent NDC MP has dragged Dr. Rawlings to court claiming she was not a registered voter at the time the party’s primary was held in November 2015.

But Dr. Zanetor Rawlings in a bid to nullify the charges against her, successfully registered at the Nyaniba polling station at Ridge on Thursday in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Lawyer for Nii Armah Ashitey, Garry Nimako, subsequently stated that Zanetor’s registration will not exonerate her from any wrongdoing or bring the case to a close.

But the lead lawyer for Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, Edudzi Tamakloe, in a direct response to lawyers of Nii Armah Ashietey, says they are unperturbed by their opponents’ confidence since it is only the Supreme Court that can decide the fate of their client.

He therefore emphasized the need for lawyers of Nii Armah Ashietey to allow the court to give its final ruling.

“…We have put before the court, the case which is fixed for hearing on 3rd May, 2016. I have listened to my brother Gary Nimako all over the media saying all over that Zanetor’s registration will not be of any effect… The last time I checked, he was just a lawyer, not a judge. The matter will be decided by more than five judges of the Supreme Court. I do not want to preempt anything but the Supreme Court judges will decide on the merit or otherwise of our application . They are the best people to decide on it.”
