Residents of Kwahu in the Eastern Region have given government and their chiefs a one month ultimatum to remove all Fulani herdsmen from the area.

According to them, the destructive activities of the herdsmen are affecting them physically and economically.

[contextly_sidebar id=”5ZAuK2yrZL0ivD7tc08tfDiYTbE0EUeT”]Fulanis in some parts of the country especially Agogo in the Ashanti Region and Afram Plains have been accused of fomenting trouble in those areas.

Residents in those towns have complained that the Fulanis and their cattle have been destroying their crops and farmlands and have subsequently asked government to evict them or face their wrath.

Speaking to Citi News, assembly member for New Owurobong electoral area in the Kwahu South district, Kofi Asante Nkrumah said if the authorities refuse to act within one month, residents will unite to sack the herdsmen.

“They are troubling us on our land. The people over here are peasant farmers who cultivate crops like okro, pepper, groundnut, cassava, maize and so on. Our question is that how do we feed ourselves if our farms are destroyed.”

Mr. Owurobong said they have petitioned the government to ensure that the taskforce deployed to the region to evacuate the Fulanis execute such mandate else they will take the law into their own hands.

“We petitioned the government to use the taskforce they claimed they have deployed to the area to evacuate the Fulanis from our land and up to May 25th, 2016. If we don’t hear anything from the government, then we will take over such task because we don’t have anywhere to go.”

“We are asking them to let this Fulanis leave our land so that we may get our peace because they are giving us so many problems like destroying our body, land, crop and at the same time raping our women and even armed robbery. As we are saying we will mobilise ourselves, move to the bush and sack them ourselves,” he added.

Residents ban politcal activities over Fulani crisis

Residents of Agogo have banned political activities in the town in a bid to compel government to evict the Fulanis from the area.
