The Brong Ahafo Regional executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), are demanding the immediate dismissal of the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, following his comments to the effect that Muslims who align with the NPP are fake.

The Regional Minister incurred the wrath of Muslims after he advised true Muslims to stay away from an elephant which is the emblem of the NPP, quoting the Quran to support his call.

[contextly_sidebar id=”O6MIaI9D5uCz7pVgekPHHGyhSETkbnJL”]Quoting a chapter in the Quran, Mr. Opoku said any Muslim who associates with an elephant is not authentic.

Speaking to Citi News, the Brong Ahafo Regional Secretary of the NPP, Alfred Ofori said Mr. Opoku has to be removed from office for the sake of peace and unity.

“If we want unity to prevail in Brong Ahafo, the President must remove him from office and he [Mr. Opoku] too must come out and apologize and retract the statement that he made.”

He also noted that comments such as that of Mr. Opoku threatens the peace that exists between Christians and Muslims saying, “We have been in his region for a long time. Christians and Muslims have been coexisting so if you make pronouncements like this, you are going to inflame passions between the two religions and problems will arise.”

Alfred Ofori expressed further disappointment in Mr. Opoku’s inflammatory comments because, according to him, the Regional Minister is aware of the tensions that spring up in the area during elections.

“Instead of him to make remarks that will bring peace into the region, he is rather making statements that will divide the people and could cause chaos before the elections.”
