A family of nine travelling in a tricycle have died in an accident that occurred on the Twabidi-Dadiesoaba road in the Brong-Ahafo.

According to a reporter with Citi News’ affiliate station, Success FM at Goaso, Agyeman Opambuor, the accident occurred around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon when a tricycle collided with a truck carrying sand on the Twabidi-Dadiesoaba road.

Agyeman Opambuor said, “We heard that the tricycle was loaded with people from Tepa to Goaso. Because the road is not good, they passed through Twabidi to Dadiesoaba en route to Goaso. When they reached a curve, the oncoming tipper truck with registration number AS 5126-15 collided with the tricycle.”

He added that; eight of the ten people in the tricycle died on the spot, as the remaining two were rushed to the Goaso Government Hospital where another was confirmed dead.

The surviving victim, a 17 year-old boy is without any major injuries.

According to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, the bodies have so far been deposited to the Goaso government hospital morgue whiles the police is investigating the crash.

“They are family members including the father, mother, children and their siblings. It was only one of them who jumped off the tricycle to save himself upon seeing the accident. But all others who were occupants in the tricycle perished. That tricycle shouldn’t have taken any passenger. It is only meant for goods and the rider but because of their stubbornness they don’t listen.”

ASP Christopher Tawiah says going forward, the police will ensure that tricycles carrying passengers are arrested to curb the carnage on the road.

Originally, tricycles are not meant to convey passengers except goods. But the use of it is abused by many across the country.
