The headmistress of Achimota School, Beatrice Adom, has said her students live in fear following the activities of land guards and other criminal activities.
According to her, the land guards have encroached on some of the school’s lands, posing a threat to them.
Making her point on the insecurity in the area, the Headmistress said five murders have been recorded on the school’s premises just this academic year.
Mrs. Adom also said the school is forced to contend with some prayer groups and beggars who have also encroached on the school’s land.
She made these remarks when the Accra Regional Police Commander, COP George Akuffo Dampare, paid a courtesy call on her on a fact-finding mission under the Police Service’s Continuous Community Policy Engagement programme.
Mrs. Adom revealed that the school had forwarded their grievances to the court because the police indicated that they could not do much about the encroachment without an injunction order from the court.
The Accra Regional Police Commander did not make a definite statement about how the police were going to address the situation; but assured they will work with the community to improve security in the Achimota enclave.
