The Regional Maritime University (RMU), has signed an agreement with Seaweld Engineering Ghana, an indigenous company in maritime, oil and gas industry to train its students.
The move is to ensure hands on training in exploration and production of the oil and gas industry for students of the University.
Seaweld Engineering will help provide them with requisite skills needed for industry. The agreement between the two, will make available equipment such as full mission engine room simulator, onshore rig, well control simulator, process operator simulator, crane laboratory, trainers among others.
The training is designed to introduce the students to oil and gas, various levels well control, drilling completion fluids, practical drilling technology, stuck pipe and floater operational transition.
Other areas include advance drilling technology, painting, welders, crane simulation, roustabout, roughneck, derrick-man and driller competency program to equip the trainees for international certification.
The Chief Executive officer of Seaweld Engineering, Alfred Fafali Adagbedu, signed on behalf of the company while the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Elvis Nyarko, appended his signature on behalf of the Regional Maritime University.
Prof. Nyarko said the collaboration between the University and Seaweld Engineering is a clear example of academia partnering industry to address the challenges facing the oil and gas industry.
“The historical short gap between our oil discovery and production comes with the lack of requisite skills set needed for oil and gas industry, not forgetting the ambitious local content policy.”
Such development he said resulted in a gap between academia and industry, especially with the discovery of oil and gas in the country.
On his part, Mr. Adagbedu described the collaboration between the two organisations as strategic saying that “this is the time when the country is calling for strong collaboration between industry and technical education as well as competence- based training. We will provide the trainees with the requisite skills that will meet industry standard and avenue for them to be well trained and positioned for work,” He added.
