Angry youth of Navio in the Upper East Region, are accusing the District Police Commander, DSP Isaac Kojo Forson, of fueling the recent tensions in the area.
They have thus called on the country’s security agencies to call the Navoipio, Adam Kwarasey to order, because they feel his actions and inactions are putting the lives of the residents in danger.
[contextly_sidebar id=”yfafZEqar1KNGCBX5NlHcu7xO551Iq8e”]The Chief of Buru-Navio, Pe Adam Kwarasei II, a community at Paga in the Kasena-Nankana West district of the Upper East Region, had to flee for his life when youth of the area threatened to lynch him, in what he says is the fifth attack on his life.
Naviopio Pe Adam Kwarasei II on Thursday narrowly escaped death after the youth attacked his palace and succeeded in setting fire to two structures.
The Police in the area have since arrested six persons in connection who they assure will soon be put before court.
Addressing a news conference at the Palace of the Navoipio in response to the attacks and the subsequent arrests, spokesperson for the youth, Andiyira Peter, called for the release of the six individuals who were arrested.
They also warned individuals perceived to be supporting the Navoipio.
Andiyira Peter said, “We the youth of Paga are calling for the immediate release of those who were arrested and detained. Secondly, those who are supporting this man, openly and secretly should desist from that.”
The youth also called for sanctions against the District Police Commander and urged government to take action to prevent an escalation of the tension in the area,
“The district police commander should be sanctioned seriously because he is fueling the conflict in Paga and destroying the good work of the Mahama-led administration. We are therefore calling on the government to pay attention to this particular issue for it not to escalate into unmanageable levels.”
Why the attack?
Speaking on what may have motivated the attack on his life, the Naviopio, Adam Kwarasei, told Citi News that when his father died about thirty years ago; the Paga people were grabbing their lands indiscriminately “so when I came I decided to put a stop to it.”
“Currently, they have constructed a Senior High School on our land without any permission which I raised concerns about it. The Paga Chief said because of that he will de-skin me; but I said he can’t do that and that is where everything started. The case is before the Regional House of Chiefs and the High court,” he added.
According to the Chief, he had been invited to meet a supposed conflict mediating team but he avoided them because he had information they had plotted to forcibly de-skin him.
