Tomato prices shoot up in second week of April

For the second week in April, tomato recorded the highest gain in price.

It is now selling at 7 cedis 20 pesewas per medium size tin.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FkojvZqQU4dCsoQeoYbvQkDIqd1couwB”]Yam followed with a 5 percent gain in price to close the week at 5 cedis 60 pesewas per medium size tuber.

Checks by Esoko Ghana also indicated that imported rice and millet gained 3 percent each to sell at 28 cedis 40 pesewas and 5 cedis 50 pesewas for a 5 kilogram bag and medium size tin respectively.

Fresh tubers of cassava however dropped 4 percent in price to close the week at 6 cedis 40 pesewas for three to four tubers.

According to Esoko Ghana, a medium size tin of fresh tomatoes gained 17 percent in Takoradi to close the week at 12 cedis.

At Techiman, the commodity gained 14 percent and it is selling at 4 cedis.

The price of tomato also increased on the Kumasi and Tamale markets. It gained 4 and 2 percent to close the week at 5 cedis 40 pesewas and 3 cedis 10 pesewas respectively.

In the other markets, the price remained the same.

Esoko further stated that the price for a medium tin of maize increased on the various markets.

In Accra, it increased by 3 percent to close the week at 5 cedis and also gained by 4 percent in Kumasi to close the week at 5 cedis 40 pesewas.

While on the other markets, the price remained the same.
