Food stuff price hikes to cease in 3 weeks

Players in the food stuff value chain have told Citi Business News the hikes in the prices of food stuff which is currently on going is likely to stop in three weeks.

The recent harsh weather condition which adversely impacted the production of food stuff lead to hikes in the prices of food stuff across various makers in the country.

Prizes of foodstuff last week shot up astronomically in the Greater Accra region following a shortage of food crops.

According to one of the traders who spoke to Citi Business News ‘prizes were up last week due to the lack of rains, but now that the rains have started, we will see prizes go back to how it used to be. Prices of foodstuffs have even started seeing a reduction. In the next three weeks, everything will be back to normal’.

Prizes of most foodstuffs last week escalated hitting an all-time high.

Nkontonmire was selling at 5ghc a bundle, okro was going for 2ghc for four, whiles’ garden eggs was selling at 2ghc for 5.

Plantain had one of the biggest increase as it shot up to between 60 and 100ghc.

The prices however have started reducing.

Nkontonmire is now goes for 3ghc a bundle and okro currently at 2ghc for 5 pieces.
