Ghana’s new Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpauye has made giant strides in resolving issues of Black Stars bonuses by paying their outstanding arrears for the Comoros win in Ghana Cedis.

The Black Stars, over the years, have rejected moves to have their bonuses paid in the local cedi currency – a situation that reared its ugly head at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

But Nii Lantey Vanderpauye upon assuming office as the Minister of Youth and Sports vowed to always pay the team in Cedis.

For the first time since Brazil 2014 where issues of Black Stars bonuses dominated the headlines, the minister with some high ranking members of the team reached an agreement to pay the team’s bonuses in cedis.

Each player of the national team received a cheque written in Cedis though it was an equivalent of $ 10,000 dollars they receive as winning bonuses

The payment was for their 2-0 win over Comoros in the 2018 world Cup qualifier which was played in November 2015.

This move by the Minister is clearly an improvement in government’s aim to restructure remuneration structure of the national team.
