Zoomlion provides MDAs in U/E with sanitation support

 Zoomlion Ghana Limited has provided new refuse trucks and motorized tricycles to various Municipal and District assemblies in the Upper East Region to support waste management.

Deputy Upper East Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Mr. Issaka Abubakari, at the handing over ceremony in Bolgatanga said, the initiative is aimed at fostering good sanitation practices in communities and also support  government achieve high standards of sanitation nationwide.

[contextly_sidebar id=”dlGMs59FQphruhztvrhvGx2FLdp4UMOx”]Mr. Abubakari reiterated that, the introduction of the manual and  motor tricycles in waste management has tremendously improved sanitation in the region.

 “We are providing one hundred and thirty two motorized tricycles and five refuse trucks to municipal and district assemblies to  support waste management  services in the region. This initiative is in line with our corporate theme for this year 2016, which is  ‘Excellent Customer Delivery’. This theme  was motivated by our awareness of the shortcoming and the need for us to ensure quality service to our customers “, Mr. Abubakari stated.

While all the 13 assemblies will receive at least 5 motorized tricycles,  the following assemblies are beneficiaries of the refuse trucks; Talensi, Bolgatanga, Bongo, Garu and  Kasena-Nankana municipal.

He added that the provision of such logistics will aid the beneficiary assemblies manage waste effectively to fight unhygienic conditions and its related menace.

Mr. Abubakari, lauded government for the National Sanitation Day programme and pledged continuous support for the programme with the necessary logistics and personnel to ensure Ghana achieves the best sanitation practices in Africa.

Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo, lauded the initiative by Zoomlion and cautioned the beneficiary assemblies to repair and maintain the vehicles regularly to ensure their longevity.

He bemoaned the region’s lead in open defecation and impressed on environmental health departments of the various assemblies to collaborate with Zoomlion to build capacity of the citizenry towards  behavioral change in order to rid their areas of filth.

He also charged various assemblies to be proactive in prosecuting residents who flout sanitation by-laws.
