The over 900 residents of Yendi in the Northern Region who were severely affected by a rainstorm a fortnight ago, are yet to receive any form of assistance, two weeks after the incident.
Records from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) showed that over 300 people in 91 households were affected by the storm.
[contextly_sidebar id=”F8qEgTzZfEYqYxc7vjLVLBwmvYMtVQCr”]NADMO reportedly committed to provide some relief items to the affected residents last week, but the items are yet to arrive.
Speaking to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Issah Zakaria revealed that some residents have already started building make-shift structures while they wait on NADMO and the assembly to come to their aid.
According to Mr. Zakaria, the assembly has mobilised some relief items but they are still waiting on NADMO
“We are waiting for NADMO to come with their relief items so that we will add to that to the assembly to give to the victims. Most of them on their own are re-roofing their houses but that notwithstanding, it behooves on NADMO and the assembly to also come in and give some assistance and that is what we are still working on.”
