The Ghana Police Service has started an operation in Accra to arrest motorists who flout road traffic regulations.

The operation started on Thursday at various parts of the city including Nima Junction and around the National Theater.

Several motor bike riders were arrested for breaking the regulations on traffic light.

“We have made several arrests and we will make sure that we process them before court. We want everybody to know that everyone should be law abiding. It is not only the cars that are supposed to obey traffic regulation. The motorbikes too have to observe the rules.”

COP Rose Bio Atinga assured that the operation will not be “a nine day wonder” , insisting they will continue.

“We want to advise the motorbike riders that if they want to use our roads, they should make sure that they observe the traffic regulations. They have decided not to abide by the traffic regulations so we’ve arrested them. We will check and see whether they have the riding license, we will make sure that their motorbikes are roadworthy and are insured and those at fault will be processed for court.”

This is not the first time the Police is embarking on such an operation. Some offenders who were nabbed in previous exercises have not been prosecuted.
