Argentine captain and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been named FIFA Ballon d’Or winner for 2015 ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
Messi helped Barcelona win the Spanish League, Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He had 41.33 of the votes while Ronaldo got 27.66% of the votes and Neymar had 7.86% of the votes.
Messi’s reaction after winning the award: “It is a very special moment for me to be back here on this stage, winning again another Ballon d’Or after being there in the audience watching Cristiano win. It’s incredible this is my fifth. It’s much more than anything I’ve dreamed of as a kid. I want to thank everyone who voted for me and I want to thank my team-mates. And lastly, I want to thank football in general for everything it has brought me. Both the bad and the good. Because it has made me learn and grow.”
Carli Lloyd was named the FIFA Best Women’s Player for 2015.
She captained USA to win the 2015 Women’s World Cup and scored a hat-trick in the final against Japan in a 5-2 win for the Americans.
