Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu says Ghana is “bleeding profusely” as it is being fleeced in various corruption scandals under the watch of President John Mahama.
Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 15th Extraordinary Conference in the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, Sunyani, the Minority Leader lamented the many corruption scandals which he said, presented clear opportunities for the President to act firmly by cracking the whip, but in most cases, he protected the offenders by his actions or inactions.
According to him, the administration of former President Kufuor had taken the country to an enviable level, but President Mahama’s administration has virtually eroded all the gains made in many sectors of the economy.
On corruption, he reminded Ghanaians of the assertion made by Akufo-Addo, the 2016 Flagbearer of the party, to the effect that he was never going to be corrupt.
He said Ghana will rise again to greater heights under the leadership of an incorruptible Nana Akufo-Addo.
He reiterated that President Mahama’s commitment to fight corruption is nothing to write home about, saying the “corruption, wastage and maladministration is overwhelming.”
He added that “the minority in parliament has unveiled the cases of SADA, Subah, GYEEDA, the sale and purchase of Merchant Bank, the high cost of the construction of the Ridge Hospital and other road construction projects, the AMERI saga, the Karpower saga, the Kumasi Airport refurbishment, the National Service Scheme saga, STX, the purchase of the Embraya planes, the CDB loan saga among others; and now the rebranding saga of the Metro Mass buses at a cost of GHC 31,000 per bus. Simply put; the nation is being fleeced and the nation is bleeding under president Mahama.”
According to him, if there are any people to be credited for putting up a real fight against corruption, are the former Attorney General Martin Amidu and investigative journalists Anas Aremeyaw Anas, pressure groups Occupy Ghana and the Let My Vote Count Alliance.
He said the several corruption scandals under the Mahama administration, has severely dented the country’s image, calling on good-hearted Ghanaians to kick out the NDC in 2016 and give their vote to the NPP’s incorruptible Nana Akufo-Addo.
He was speaking at the NPP’s extraordinary delegates congress in Sunyani where the party would outdoor its campaign team for the 2016 elections and strategy for the elections next year.
The conference, which is allowed by the party’s constitution to take place particularly ahead of a major election, is among other things expected to allow the party take stock of recent happenings in its fold and agree on a way forward into the 2016 general elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign team for 2016 will also be endorsed at the venue. Already, the party’s Parliamentary Candidates for 2016 have also been introduced to the gathering.
Over three thousand delegates are attending the conference.
