The Sunyani Traditional Council has denied reports that it is scheming to stop the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from holding its extraordinary delegates’ conference in the Brong Ahafo regional on Sunday.

The Krontihene of the Council, Nana Bofotia Boamponsem II told Citi News, the Chiefs officially have no knowledge of the programme and cannot hold a meeting to prevent it.

And so if they are coming to do something and they haven’t communicated anything to us yet, it shows that we officially don’t know anything about the programme they are coming to do”, he said.

There were earlier reports that the Chiefs were in a crunch meeting on Friday morning to stop the delegates’ conference scheduled to take place at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

According to the reports, the chiefs’ decision was hinged on the fact that regional executives of the NPP failed to apologize for some comments they made against the Paramount Chief of the area Nana Bosoma Asor deemed derogatory.

However, Nana Bofotia Boamponsem II,  told Citi News there are no such attempts to frustrate the party’s event.

“We are not the official hosts of the programme, but we are custodians of the land and so if they are surely doing something in Sunyani, they should have informed us” he argued.

Meanwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials in Sunyani have told Citi News they will officially inform the traditional authorities about their activities in the region.
