Executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region, have resolved to organize the parliamentary primary in the North Tongu constituency this Sunday 20th December.
The decision follows the dismissal of a suit filed by a member who sought to put an injunction on the election.
The injunction was filed by Christopher Kofi Eleblu, an aspirant, who was disqualified by the NDC National Petition Review Committee on October 14, 2015, on grounds that he had reportedly been arraigned before an Accra High Court (Financial Division) for defrauding the State to the tune of GH¢646, 000.00.
[contextly_sidebar id=”wTzv141GC3gKDy1PJtgPtNXBZ4XoiHno”]Following his disqualification, Mr. Eleblu headed to an Accra High Court to place an injunction on the primary until the final verdict on his case was determined.
The seat is currently occupied by the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC Mr. Kwadwo Gyapong, confirmed to Citi News that the primary will come off on Sunday.
“Somebody took the party to court and the case was dismissed only yesterday [Tuesday] and we are holding the election on Sunday, the 20th of this month [December],” he said.
Mr. Gyapong also said the two remaining postponed parliamentary primaries in the Volta Region for Ketu South and Nkwanta South, will come off as soon as all legal issues are cleared.
“Ketu-South’s case is still in court and as soon us we get clearance, we will hold the primary. That Nkwanta-South too we are hoping that sooner or later, everything will be cleared so we can hold he election.”
