The Andani Royals in Dagbon have served notice they will resist any attempt by government to perform the final funeral rite of the late two Dagbon overlords.

Government has been working towards finding a permanent solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.

A committee led by the Asantehene and three other eminent chiefs to mediate the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate, finally resolved that the funerals of the two deceased overlords of Dagbon should be performed in the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Dt7qc3t5CorZubRSLdizxJVvYFJ6CgGg”]But the Andani Royals insist the alleged murderers of Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II should be arrested and prosecuted before the funeral rites are performed.

President John Dramani Mahama on several occasions in the Dagbon area unreservedly declared his administration’s agenda to permanently resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.

Performing the funeral rites of the two overlords, Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II, according to government, is critical for the attainment of peace in the area.

Citi News has gathered that the Asantehene led committee of eminent chiefs at a meeting last week in Kumasi, resolved that the final funeral rites should be performed in the old Gbewaa Palace but the Andani Royals are opposed to this latest development.

The Gukpegu-Naa Alhassan Abdulai on behalf of the Andani Royals in an exclusive Citi News interview, kicked against the decision.

He warned that any attempt to implement the decision without arresting and prosecuting the alleged murderers of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II could endanger national security.

He however appealed to the Andani youth to exercise restraint but maintained that the Asantehene led eminent chiefs committee should reverse its decision.

Early 2015, the Regent of Dagbon, the Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Andani renewed calls for justice to prevail in the murder of the late overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II, who died in March 2002 as a result of deadly attacks in the Yendi Township.

He is displeased with the delay in apprehending killers of the Yaa-Naa. The children of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II in a similar fashion demonstrated in Tamale and petitioned government to find their late father’s killers.
