The Techiman Police Command in the Brong Ahafo Region says it is working towards reducing road accidents in the area this festive season.

Techiman recorded 60 deaths in various road accidents in December last year.

[contextly_sidebar id=”VHbUIiLvGDv2AysRRtlljW7QdJmorYyT”]Addressing the media in Techiman, the Divisional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), ASP Andrews Okonengye, urged road users to abide by road regulations.

ASP Okonengye said they have introduced a programme that seeks to reduce  road accidents this time around.

“This programme is all about ensuring that within the Christmas festivities, we wouldn’t have any unforeseen disasters, crashes in our catchment area,” he said.

As part of this, he said they would be collaborating effectively with other stakeholders to sensitize and remind drivers of road safety regulations.

“We decided with our partners and our colleagues in the road safety fraternity, to make sure that we carry out an education and sensitization programme that will actually remind our drivers of the various safety regulations on the road in case they have forgotten about them to ensure safety on our highway within this period.”

ASP Okonengye is confident that a successful implementation of the exercise would mean that it can be deployed in future.

“If there is actually a reduction, this will actually let us know that such exercises will be of good use to us in the future,” he concluded.
