The Ministry of Health says it will not intervene in the standoff between the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Gilbert Buckle and the Senior Staff Association of the hospital.

Two days ago, members of the Senior Staff Association of the hospital voted massively to demand for his resignation.

[contextly_sidebar id=”4PMPeZdLNDw9ijae9MJ3s8Xez6Avjqt2″]They have accused the CEO of mismanaging internally generated funds and paying what they termed needless judgment debts amounting to over hundred million cedis.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman, said they are monitoring events closely until it is absolutely necessary for them to step in.

“For now, we will do internal talks. Korle Bu has a PRO, they have a Director of Communications. They have all the compliments. Korle Bu is semi autonomous so when it comes these things, we leave them . It is only when it has an effect on the health sector that we come in” he explained.

“Until a few days that we see that it is not what we expected, and it is generating into something else, then we will  come in. But we expect them to handle the whole issue and bring into conclusion the whole matter. Otherwise, we will be micro managing our own institution.”
