Former Barcelona and Netherlands player Edgar Davids didn’t show much compassion for Cristiano Ronaldo during the presentation of the three Ballon d’Or finalists.
Davids, one of the presenters at the event, was tough and clear when asked to compare the Portuguese forward with Lionel Messi.
The Dutchman told Fifa’s official website: “Messi is just an anomaly: he can dribble, he can score, he can pass, he has the vision, and he understands the game…
“Messi has a talent given by God and that distinguishes him from the rest,” he responded.
“Cristiano is just an athlete. He works and that determination means he is always there.
“I’ve played against Cristiano Ronaldo and he’s a player who’s easy to defend against – Messi isn’t.
“Working hard you can reach Ronaldo’s level, to a certain point, but it’s impossible to reach Messi’s level.”
Messi was among the three Ballon d’Or finalists and is the favourite to win it for the fifth time – Ronaldo and Neymar are the other finalists.
