The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) will today [Wednesday], appear before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy to answer for the payment of ex-gratia to some four former managers of the company.
GNPC announced on Monday that its board has approved the payment of ex-gratia to the four, including the former CEO, Tsatsu Tsikata.
The rest are Nana Boakye Asafu-Adjaye (Ag. Chief Executive), Mr. Benjamin Dagadu (Field Evaluation and Development Manager and Mrs. Esther Cobbah, former Public Affairs Manager.
[contextly_sidebar id=”eOSySrBAILtJOzWBhRVbiZ5Qe4xcM3nf”]Although GNPC did not state the amount it paid to the four, the Minority Spokesperson on Energy and Mines, K.T. Hammond, has alleged that Esther Cobbah has been paid GHc600,000, while Tsatsu Tsikata took home GHc1 million and called on the President to probe the matter.
GNPC in a statement said it was convinced there was nothing wrong with the process.
Meanwhile, the former Public Affairs Manager of GNPC, Esther Cobbah, says she is yet to receive the amount as promised.
A Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy committee, Joseph Cudjoe, who confirmed the invitation of GNPC, told Citi News they will recommend to government what to do after hearing from the GNPC.
“All that we’ve been hearing are not a documented presentation. We’ve heard Madam Esther Cobbah releasing a statement and K.T. Hammond talking; when it’s like that you want a presentation from GNPC itself. Typically, what the committee can do is just to express an opinion on it and if possible make a recommendation.”
