Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has charged academics and technocrats in the country to come out of their shells and speak out on the direction the nation is going in order to save the country.

According to him, the leadership of the country does not know everything and are often bound to make mistakes without proper counsel from technical experts.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zJiYoHNiJUAicO55Va6SUoZGeWHUmDZX”]“That one may become president or minister doesn’t mean one knows everything. We need our technocrats there to  speak out” he noted.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary memorial lecture of the late Oyeeman Wereko Ampem, the former President tasked Ghanaian technocrats to speak out for what is right and point out the wrongs in society regardless of the cost.

“Its high time, I believe, people talked and talked frankly – if you like brutally frankly to political leaders so they will get their bearings right.”

Former President Kufuor’s comment comes few weeks after President Mahama criticized economist and running mate to the NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia for allegedly describing him as incompetent.

The President in his response said Dr. Bawumia had not been President before and did not have the right to criticize him.
