The Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Nii Noi Nortey, says he is surprised his opponents in the parliamentary primaries are still challenging his election.

Lawyer Philip has filed a suit at the High Court , calling for fresh elections in the constituency; but Nii Noi Nortey argues their suit is illegal since they refused to duly exhaust the party’s internal procedures before resorting to the court to seek redress.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SQbAlv7ZSRg96tvP8nsTtj68O7m8HDAr”]“I don’t have a problem with them going to court. I had a problem with the way the whole thing was structured because you could see that the reliefs that the plaintiffs are seeking are reliefs if granted are going to affect me directly.”

“I believe that this issue in court now was petitioned to the National Executive of the party which I know and the other aspirants know for sure they are working on it because they called for a meeting and they spoke to us and they told us we should go back and they will get back to us. So we have all been waiting to hear from them.If you petition the National Executive over an issue and we have all been called by a committee and they are working on it, you should wait for an outcome before you move on to take such a step. You have given the case for the National Executive Committee to look through and then on the blind side you go and file a law suit.”

He indicated that he has also filed a motion at the court in order to defend his candidature.

“I have filed a motion for a rejoinder which is supposed to be heard on Tuesday. After the motion is heard, and hopefully I am joined to the issue, I can also come out in court and defend my candidature because I believe the right thing was done on 2nd August when I was duly elected.”
