A lawyer and Vice-President of policy think tank, IMANI-Ghana, Kofi Bentil, has stated that persons fighting corruption in the country do not require any formal registration.

This he said is because the constitution entreats every Ghanaian to fight crime in any form.

Writing on his Facebook wall, Kofi Bentil said “let no one be fooled, there is no law against those who expose crime! And by the laws of Ghana no one needs to be registered to uncover crime.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”feRpVBiahgyC3vpdEM9hpbFLpr18xVRf”]“Our constitution requires us all to fight crime and injustice, even citizen arrests are allowed under our law,” he added.

Kofi Bentil’s comment comes on the back of accusations by anti-corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu who has insisted that investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is hiding behind his “fraudulent” company, Tigereye PI to operate in the country.

According to Amidu, the Tigereye PI company is not recognised as a security or investigative firm hence cannot go ahead with his “covert” operations in the name of fighting corruption.

Mr. Amidu maintains that government, which commissioned Anas to unearth rot in some institutions, was wrong to have done that.

But Kofi Bentil insists that government did no wrong adding that “governments have the right to use both state and non-state actors to fight and uncover crime.”

Anas has come under a lot of criticism for exposing corruption in the judiciary.

According to Kofi Bentil “no law or provision in our constitution allows the different arms of government to commit crimes independently. It is most absurd to say that exposing the stealing and corruption of Judges is unlawful or unconstitutional. There can be no argument to justify the bribe collection and corruption of the Judges or anyone Anas has exposed.”

“Martin Amidu is the one doing the dirty work of criminals, and he has provided no evidence against Anas,” he added.
