But first, let me take a selfie. Proud new dad Gil Solano made waves on the Internet on Monday, Nov. 9, after he shared a photo on Imgur of himself next to his wife as she was giving birth to their daughter.
“My wife wanted to make sure that someone took a picture of the expression on our faces when our daughter was born today,” he captioned the image. “So I took one.”
In the viral photo, Solano looks ecstatic with a huge grin on his face as his wife, Sarah, clearly looks like she’s in pain as she is in the midst of labor.
He also shared the photo on Reddit, where several persons who commented noted how inconsiderate it was of the new dad to be taking a photo during such a private — and likely painful! — Moment. Solano responded that Sarah was not only okay with the photo, but found it funny.
“I showed it to her in between pushes and she cracked up,” he wrote on a Reddit thread. “Now I’m reading her all of you guys comments while she feeds our healthy 7lb 6 oz girl.”
Several other fathers chimed in by sharing photos of their own selfies from within the delivery room.
“My wife really wanted me to grab a selfie of us before she went into surgery for an emergency C-Section,” one wrote. “This was after 4 hours of pushing only to discover the kid was too big to come out the old fashioned way. She was stoned out of her mind in the pic I took and she has no recollection of it due to all the meds they pumped her up with before the surgery. It’s still one of my favorite pics.”
Solano later took to Facebook to announce that their daughter, Eva, was doing well and was “as pretty as her mother.”
