New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has charged members of the NPP to focus on helping him to win the 2016 election, and leave the structures of the party to handle  internal problems.

He reminded them that Ghanaians are looking forward to an NPP administration to restore the country to the path of progress and prosperity.

Nana Akufo-Addo said this at the final day of a 2-day training programme organized by the party for selected regional executives across the country.

[contextly_sidebar id=”InxZxOv4xKDg7OXi04SunwIIfysFPEgX”]“Our party structures are capable of dealing with the problems so let us leave the party structures to handle the problems of the party. Let us leave it to them to do so whiles we get on with our main task of mobilizing and organizing our party. Because at the end of the day, all the lessons and everything that we are learning; all the tips that we are being given to improve our performance, all of it comes to one thing; how committed are we to victory next year…Because if we are committed and we imbibe what we are hearing from here, then we are standing on a solid platform for going ahead next year.”

His comments come at a time when the party is seen as deeply fragmented into factions over the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

Mr. Paul Afoko has refused to accept his suspension and has petitioned the party’s National Council over his suspension.

“What is victory going to be? Victory cannot just mean NPP people being alright in Ghana. Victory is about building a new Ghana; it is extremely important that we go into this fight knowing that we are not going for ourselves or our party but for the people of Ghana. We want to build a prosperous Ghana that the people dreamt about and we are capable of doing it. But first of all, we have to win the election of 2016. Our country needs us to win so let’s focus on the winning” he emphasized.

The internal strife has led to the death of a party member in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti Region.

Abubakar Sadique, an NPP activist was stabbed to death last Friday for allegedly threatening to beat up the constituency chairman who is reported to have made some unpleasant comments about the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The police has so far arrested the constituency chairman and six others, suspected to have masterminded the attack.
