An aide to Nana Akuffo Addo, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has dismissed comments by some party stalwarts of the NPP condemning the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

He insists the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, did not err in their decision to suspend Mr. Afoko.

[contextly_sidebar id=”BBGVJPnzZAWvirPUCdpxdwUiOSYPDExl”]The NEC’s decision was taken after the party’s Council of Elders petitioned the Disciplinary Committee to suspend Mr. Afoko.

A one-time aspiring presidential candidate of the NPP, Arthur Kennedy and a former VRA boss, Charles Wereko Brobbey have in separate commentaries, criticized the process and the ultimate suspension of Mr. Afoko.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on a statement by Nana Addo calling for respect for the decision by the NEC, Musah Superior maintained that the process adopted by NEC was constitutional,

“We are a democratic constitutional political party and what the party has done is totally right, the rule of law was followed, due process was followed,” he said.

Musah Superior was also of the opinion that Dr. Wereko Brobbey and Dr. Arthur Kennedy had their own ‘agenda’ to pursue since to him, both had in one point or another been suspended for some acts deemed ‘unacceptable’ by the party,

“Charles Wereko-Brobbey was a prominent member of the party who was suspended for statements he clearly made which were in the view of the party, inappropriate. Both Charles Wereko Brobbey and Arthur Kennedy are totally wrong, they probably have an agenda.”Musah Superior stated.

Nana Addo’s aide further accused Mr. Arthur Kennedy for seeking to run down the party and the the political image of Nana Akufo-Addo,

He said,“…they are very mischievous especially Arthur Kennedy who has set out since 2008 to run down the NPP, to undermine the political image of Nana Addo…he wrote the book, ‘Chasing the elephant to the bush’ and all the details of the campaign he was privy to was published in the book,”

“I think his statement was completely needless, completely out of place and I think we should not be wasting our time on that,” he added.

In a related development, Musah Superior has also condemned statements suggesting that the party is ‘unfriendly’ to non-Akans owing to the fact that the action taken against Mr. Afoko has been influenced by his tribal inclination.

“This is bogus…it is propaganda by the NDC, we are not talking tribal or ethnic politics. When for example Wereko Brobbey was suspended was NPP anti-Ashanti? When Joshua Aryeh left the NDC did it affect the party? When Kofi Adams was suspended was it considered as anti-Volta…this is just propaganda and the Ghanaian is not interested in that, he is interested in establishing a political party that has a clear vision and a program that can deliver social justice and economic freedom for the country,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr. Afoko has 21 days to appeal against the NEC’s decision according to the party’s rules and regulations,

“…I would rather he (Paul Afoko) and every other person abides by the ruling of the National Executive Committee. They should come down and encourage Mr. Afoko to seek redress from the national council, they can investigate further and act on the decision by the National Executive Committee and the National Disciplinary Committee if they find out that they both acted in an untoward matter, you going rioting in the media, I do not think that will help,” Musah advised.
