The daughter of former President Rawlings, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, who is contesting the NDC’s parliamentary primaries in the Klottey Korle constituency, has told Citi News, she will support the second term bid of President John Mahama.

Speaking on the Point Blank segment on Eyewitness News, Dr. Zanetor described as unfair, suggestions that she does not endorse the candidature of President Mahama simply because her parents have largely underrated the president’s performance.

“I think a lot is going on about me being on the opposite side of the president and I don’t think that’s a fair thing because first of all, if I didn’t think that I could work on the same team with the President to achieve the common goals of the party, I will not be running on the party’s ticket”.

When she was specifically asked whether she was with President John Mahama and would campaign for him, Zanetor responded in the affirmative.

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings said her parents’ diverse political positions have not hindered her from pursuing her political ambitions on the ticket of the NDC, insisting both parents support and respect her freedom of association.

“I think that we all have the right to express our opinions. I am in the party to do what I can to help and that’s why I am here, because I do believe that the party was formed on certain principles and I see that, not everyone is actually living by those principles; and I have seen them growing up and I intend to bring that to bear within the constituency that I am standing for.”

She added, “my mother supports my decision because at the end of the day, we all express our right of association so there is no trouble at all. A lot has gone on but I am her daughter and she is my mum. It’s just a matter of this is the party I was in; and this is the party I am representing,” she stated.

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is set to launch her campaign this week ahead of the November 7 parliamentary primaries.
