Two disqualified aspirants in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have disclosed of plans to appeal against the vetting committee’s decision.
Vetting for the Greater Accra and Volta Regions were concluded on October 9 and October 10 respectively. Six aspirants were disqualified in the Greater Accra Region, while three were disqualified in the Volta Region.
[contextly_sidebar id=”R3v3EgL7XzNAmF3gwYi094hxqnQo0Blb”]An aspirant within the Akan constituency of the Volta region, Ahmed Muniru was disqualified for contesting as an independent candidate after his disqualification in the 2012 parliamentary primaries.
But in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Muniru who said he respected the decision by the vetting committee however indicated he was optimistic of a positive outcome.
“I accept the decision by the party but knows that there are other stakeholders engaging with the leaders to look into the decision for my disqualification, the people sitting on the issue are the same ones that vetted me out but I am not accusing them and I know the party has structures and a constitution,” he said.
Meanwhile one the candidates within the Tema West constituency, Bill Boglo Hedo, who had his vetting put on hold, has expressed confidence of being cleared by the party to contest in the parliamentary race.
According to him, the basis for his disqualification followed doubts over his real identity as there were issues with his name of registration.
Supporters of the two aspirants within the Tema West constituency were dissatisfied with the decision by the vetting committee to disqualify their candidates to allow the committee clarify issues having to do with documents submitted to it. Mr. Hedo tells Citi News he is hopeful of a positive outcome.
“…This is the wisdom of the vetting panel and I want to respect that they take the best decision at the end of the day,” he stated.
