Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa constituency, K.T Hammond has described as “foolish” and “scandalous”, comments by the former Rector of GIMPA, Prof. Adei suggesting that Ghana’s parliamentarians take bribes before approving projects.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Ih4RPdUT3eL0nc9yXSCNq0addZUjhN1q”]The Professor who was addressing guests at the 40th anniversary celebration of the SAPs school in Accra said some MPs shamefully go to the extent of demanding additional bribes to cater for their girlfriends.
Prof. Adei’s comments did not however sit down well with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP who insists the professor must render an unqualified apology.
“That is a very annoying and very foolish statement… How can any responsible person talk like that? He must know the legal implications of this matter. He is a professor. I expect him to know better. His statements are scandalous.
“I am very angry; you cannot just go around denigrating the image of Parliament like that. It is shameful for the professor to have said that. He should come back and let the world know that he was misguided in the statement that he made. The professor should come clean else the matter will boil and boil…,” the angry MP fumed.
He believes Prof. Adei completely overstepped his boundaries with his comments.
The MP also revealed that the Professor might be hurled before Parliament to answer questions on his recent comments.
“…The constitution gives everyone the right of speech but it is also the case that your right terminates at the place where my right begins. The Professor has completely overstepped his boundaries, … and I think he will have to meet us in Parliament to point to us those who are thieves, those who are criminals and the basis of those very very serious allegations ” K.T Hammond fumed.
