The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a statement to commemorate the 2014 May Day celebrations has urged workers to remain resolute and committed to achieving economic progress.

The party is also appealing to workers to help strengthen the nation’s democracy by working hard regardless of the economic hardships they face.

“…the NPP urges workers from the various sectors of the economy, especially organised labour to remain steadfast in the collective interest of our dear nation Ghana.”

The statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyapong acknowledged that “the current economic hardships have worsened the plight of our workers and has adversely affected our nation’s development.”

According to him, the NPP’s commitment towards the nation’s workforce will enhance and build a prosperous Ghana.

Below is the full statement

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) wishes to express appreciation to all workers across the country on this May Day. We pay tribute to the gallant work force on whose shoulders our great nation rests.

During the NPP administration, various pragmatic policies geared towards making labour productive and comfortable, were pursued. These policies sought the greater good of the ordinary worker whilst improving the living standards of the less privileged.

As we commemorate May Day, it is the hope of the New Patriotic Party that workers across the country will take stock of the past few years and work tirelessly towards achieving economic progress and strengthening our democracy. Such a commitment from the nation’s workforce will build a prosperous Ghana.

The NPP acknowledges that the current economic hardships has worsened the plight of our workers and has adversely affected our nation’s development.

Nevertheless, the NPP urges workers from the various sectors of the economy, especially organised labour to remain steadfast in the collective interest of our dear nation Ghana.

The NPP wishes all GHANAIAN workers a happy May Day.

God bless our gallant workers.

God bless our homeland Ghana.

Signed

Kwabena Agyapong
