Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited (FBGL) and the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at making healthcare readily accessible to rural and underserved areas in Ghana.

At a short signing ceremony in Accra, The Executive Director of Wholesale Banking, Fidelity Bank, Mr. Alex Dodoo said, “Being an indigenous financial institution, Fidelity Bank is conscious about the social and economic importance of quality healthcare to Ghanaians and is therefore delighted at the opportunity to provide need-based financial solutions to active healthcare providers such as CHAG.”

He added that the MOU will unlock innovative products that would facilitate health care financing and improve operational capacity. “This initiative is also expected to strengthen the Bank’s CSR position whiles building specialisation and knowledge within the health sector”.

On his part, the Executive Director of CHAG, Peter Kwame Yeboah, lauded Fidelity Bank’s initiative saying “This is timely considering the current challenges being experienced with the health care system and will go a long way to improve the value proposition of CHAG to rural Ghana.”

The partnership between the two entities was brokered on the strength of an existing intervention agreed between Fidelity Bank and USAID in September, 2014 which empowers the bank to provide preferential financing options to private health facilities such as hospitals, clinics and faith-based health establishments accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

CHAG is a well-organized association with a membership of 183 health providers working extensively in rural Ghana. The association controls a substantial share in NHIA receivables which is also presently the largest Health Insurance Scheme within the country.

Fidelity Bank is the largest private Ghanaian Bank with 80 branches, 110 ATMs and 500 agent points nationwide.
