The office of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko has expressed shock over moves by the Council of Elders of the party to have him suspended.

The National Council has written to the Disciplinary Committee of the party to investigate Mr. Afoko for breaching the party’s constitution but Mr. Afoko’s office is surprised at the move.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qqowJz3RrSJWgMh7eqHc7r3m0pZkDPGh”]They are also demanding that the party’s Chairman be made to step aside until after the 2016 elections.

Spokesperson to Mr. Afoko Nana Yaw Osei told Citi News Mr. Afoko will respond to the Council’s demand appropriately.

“It is a bit surprising to him, especially the allegations contained therein. He least expected such a letter from the National Council of Elders.Whatever is contained therein is a complete falsehood. I don’t think well meaning party members can be swayed by such a propaganda. The NPP is seriously ready for power. Whatever is happening is just a small misunderstanding.”

The NPP has been in the news lately for the wrong reasons following allegations of diversion of the party’s funds by top party executives.

Mr. Paul Afoko was recently criticized for making public comments on the party’s finances, a practice that was described as a breach of the laid down rules.

Meanwhile the party is expected to hold a crisis meeting today to discuss recent happenings in the party.

Key issues to be discussed at the meeting include the bad publicity the party is receiving following allegations of diversion of party funds.
