Vehicles and heavy duty trucks plying the Bimbila- Damanko section of the Eastern Corridor Road have been stuck in the muddy stretch for close to 24 hours.

The road became virtually unmotorable after a heavy downpour in the area.

The Eastern Corridor road is made up of a complex mix of roads traversing the Greater Accra, Volta, Northern and Upper East regions and is expected to ease access to markets and also enable farmers to increase the value of agriculture produce and ultimately their incomes.

Speaking to Citi News, a distressed passenger said:”I have been travelling from Accra to Bimbilla and the roads are completely bad… the roads that are being constructed have been abandoned… The water that is supposed to run through the roads is also stagnant…”

An abandoned bridge on the road near Afija is also said to be worsening the problem.

Some of the distressed drivers have resorted to using an alternative route which is taking them some four additional hours to complete the journey.
