The Senior Director for Africa and Middle East for the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Materne Bossou , has stated that African countries should be able to attain the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) if corruption is adequately addressed.
According to him, African leaders must ensure they put their scarce resources to efficient use in order to achieve utmost development.
The SDGs according to the United Nations(UN) involve a set of policy documents that seeks to establish an inclusive and transparent intergovernmental process open to all stakeholders, with a view to developing global sustainable development goals to be agreed by the General Assembly.
Mr. Bossou made these remarks in an interview with Citi News on the side of a training workshop for members of the group in Accra.
“We are not really different from the other people of the world, we can and we should do it, we even have more opportunities to achieve the goals than the other people because we still have everything we to do here, we haven’t developed our countries yet,
“What is holding us back is our mindset and we can change the mindset by going to talk to pupils at our primary schools by giving them good education at school and at home by telling them corruption is not normal, don’t corrupt or let yourself be corrupted, he added.
Mr. Bossou also commended Botswana for their efforts in attaining most of the MDGs.
The JCI is a non-governmental organization of young active citizens aged 18 to 40 who are committed to creating impact in their communities.
