The Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Ellembele in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, says the outcome of the 2016 elections will not be determined by the voters’ register but by development projects undertaken by the Mahama-led administration.
The New Patriotic Party, backed by other opposition parties, has provided what it says are proof indicating that the current voters’ register is bloated and cannot guarantee credible elections in 2016.
[contextly_sidebar id=”qvXfLbfr71e8gs91avtReqs5iRBXwzQS”]The party has thus called for a new current register, a call the Electoral Commission would be considering with all stakeholders this September after an IPAC meeting in August.
But the Energy Minister and the Ellembele MP in an apparent reaction to the voters’ register brouhaha, said the outcome of the 2016 elections will be determined chiefly by the widespread visible development projects embarked upon by the NDC under President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Armah-Buah, who is one of the 48 aspirants to have picked up nomination forms for the NDC’s Parliamentary primaries in 26 constituencies of the Western Region, says he is highly favored to retain the seat based on the massive infrastructural development in his constituency and the country at large.
“Election 2016 is crucial in many ways; and it is not about the electoral register” he said to loud cheers from NDC supporters in his constituency.
“It is about people; it is about good schools; it is about good water and the good roads you are seeing, and that is what President Mahama will be standing for” he noted.
The Minister also stated that:“We promised to make this district the hub of the oil industry and open up the district for investment. This we said we will do by building a strong infrastructure in the construction of good roads and extension of electricity to every village. We said we were going to provide water to every town and village; we promised to strengthen our educational structures by providing good schools and health facilities in a bid to grant the people access to quality education. Indeed, our strategy at the beginning was to empower our people in Ellembele; and educational sponsorship and skills development programmes were put in place to ensure that the youth of this constituency will eventually assume the ownership of local companies and the result is what we are seeing today. We see industries that are springing up and it feels great to say that we have fulfilled this task. We are fighting to make Ellembele an industrial hub of the Western Region.”
Among the forty-eight persons who picked forms for the NDC primaries in the Western Region, is the popular comedian and TV presenter, Seth Kwame Dzokoto, who is contesting for the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency.
