Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Damongo, have threatened to vote against their party in the 2016 elections, if the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji  Limuna Mohammed Muniru, fails to contest in the upcoming Parliamentary primaries.

A group calling itself “Friends of Alhaji Muniru – (FOAM)” on Monday, demonstrated against the Regional Minister’s decision to withdraw from the parliamentary race and destroyed some party properties in the process.

[contextly_sidebar id=”bM8ctUYhQWTwO319RCWhhQqwp8TkQZIS”]”… If he does not come back and contest… we are not voting the NDC in 2016. Alhaji’s name has become synonymous to the NDC and we are saying that ‘no Alhaji, no vote.’ It is as simple as that,” the president of the group, Abukari Yahuza stated emphatically on Eyewitness News.

Alhaji  Limuna Muniru who is currently out of the country in a radio interview revealed that he planned to withdraw from the race but his supporters feel betrayed, after openly declaring their support for him.

Abukari Yahuza added that the group is optimistic Alhaji Limuna Muniru will help increase the party’s votes within the constituency which he stated has been declining over the years.

“We need a much more formidable team that can increase the votes, that notwithstanding, we are also looking for a unifier. There are so many cracks within the party in this constituency which we think that if Alhaji comes on board, with the experience that he’s gathered and the kind of tenacity that he’s already proven on the ground and in the constituency ever since his coming, he should be able to mend the cracks in the party.”

While conceding that the current MP for the Damongo constituency, Adams Mutawakilu has helped the party the best possible way he can, Abukari Yahuza insisted the party wants the “best.”

“I cannot say that he is not doing nothing, it will be quite unfair,… we are saying that good is not enough, best is what we are seeking for,” he added.

Meanwhile Abukari Yahuza  has condemned the destruction of properties by FOAM.

The NDC is scheduled to hold it’s primaries on November 7, 2015.

There is also what appears to be “mad rush” for the nomination forms with about two clear months to the scheduled date.
