Over 500 employees working with Destination Inspection Companies (DICs) at the country’s ports will lose their jobs following government’s directive for the company to hand over to West Blue Consulting.
A letter addressed to the Chief of Staff early on asked the DICs to hand over by the end of October.

Ghana community Network (GCNet) will cease transmission and receipt of completed FCVRs from DICs at the end of the grace period in October,” the letter indicated.
An employee with one of the DICs- Bivac, Florence Bortey on Citi FM’s News Analysis Programme, The Big Issue expressed her displeasure about government’s directive, saying the move will render them [employees] redundant.
“We will see ourselves redundant very soon. Our contract with the government is ending and therefore we are going home and if we are going home, it means we will be jobless and redundant.We have already received letters to that effect.”
Florence, who has been working as a data processing officer at the company for about 8 years therefore asked government to intervene.
“Government must intervene. I know by the end of the month nothing will come in and this places a limit on my lifestyle and that of my dependents so there must be a strategy.It is a big blow.”
Written address
The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mona Quartey earlier indicated that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will absorb some employees with the DICs who will be rendered jobless after the retrenchment exercise.
However another employee of another DIC- Webb Fontain Ghana Limited , Carl Anyetei Sowah, on the show, requested for a written agreement between them and government to show the latter’s commitment of fulfilling that promise.
“We want a commitment showing that government will fulfill this promise so that we will know that a commitment is being made.We want government to officially write to declare its intentions of doing this,”he said
