The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has explained that their strike was called off following the numerous appeals it received from the public.

Prior to this, government as well as other bodies and individuals have urged the doctors to call off the strike while negotiations go on.
A statement from the GMA on Friday directed all of its members to return to work on Monday, August 24, 2015.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Frank Serebour the decision was taken after several considerations.
“I will like to indicate clearly that this has more to do with the public appeals and the secret meetings that we’ve been having with a lot of people whose names we have decided not to mention in the statement.”
He added that that the strike was also called off in order to adhere to a directive by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
“…as you all know, we have issues with the NLC we are hoping that this time around they will not act as an extended arm of government and do the bidding of government. So we have also given them the due respect but I will say that the major factor that played in today’s meeting was the various letters and appeals that have flooded our secretariat and we felt that we are all Ghanaians and there was the need for us to at least give room for this matter to be resolved once and for all,” he added.
