The Head of Retail Leasing and Consulting at Broll Ghana, Moses Luri has reemphasized the creation of an improved urban planning system to reduce the adverse impacts of natural disasters when they occur.
According to him, city authorities owe it a duty to ensure that adequate infrastructure is provided to protect lives and properties in the cities.
Mr. Moses Luri made the remarks when his company, Broll Ghana, donated items worth in excess of GH¢12,000 to support the Citi-Metro Campaign project.
“When it comes to planning, generally there are a lot of stakeholders that need to be consulted to be able to provide a sustaining solution, so we call on the government to be very involving when it comes to the provision of infrastructure,” he said.
The launch of the project which followed the flood and fire disaster on June 3, is to solicit for relief items to support persons in the capital who were affected by the floods.
Items donated by Broll Ghana included 125 quantities each of bars of keysoap, plastic bowls, cups and plates, towels and buckets.
Mr. Moses Luri further called on other corporate institutions to continue to donate to support victims of disaster.
“It definitely will take years for some of these victims to recover from the disaster; I don’t think corporate societies should stop responding to the plight of people who were affected by the disaster,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director of News Programming at Citi FM, Bernard Avle who received the items on behalf of the station commended the company for their support.
He also called on other philanthropists to contribute in support of the project.
“It’s never too late to donate to be part of the donation, imagine if you lost your job, your limb or family member, even if it is a year after, you will keep remembering, you will have to survive and live after the fire so for us it’s never too late to come and donate,” he said.
The Citi-Metro Campaign is a project jointly embarked on by Citi FM and Metro TV.
The first campaign was held at the Odawna Sahara area at Adabraka where the residents were supplied with potable water, food items, and toiletries and further benefited from free medical screening.
Subsequent donations have been made to affected victims of Osu and Adabraka.
